Daddy’s Day

Filed under: General Posts — corrie on June 21, 2009 @ 5:03 pm

I bought one of those recordable cards for Bill, and — after quite a few takes (several of which involved birthday wishes) – managed to record sweet little Lily’s voice wishing him a happy father’s day.  Priceless, and the best gift by far.  We love you, Daddy!

We’re back from my 34th annual Graves family vacation.  I say “my,” because the tradition preceded me by a few years.  This was, unbelievably, Lily’s third trip to the lake with the family, and it was certainly the most fun (for her and us).  She was way into the pool this year, and started asking to go as soon as she woke up each day.  We scored some beautiful weather this year, which made for lots of fun in the sun.  Even though my family lives so close together, our busy lives often preclude quality time together.  I always look forward to the lake trip to spend some concentrated time with them.  And Lily was thrilled to have all her favorite people within 100 yards at all times.

Early Morning Convo

Lily woke this morning and starting calling for us, and when I went to her crib, this was our conversation:

Lily (cheerily): Hi, Mommy!

Me: Hi, Lily-bug.

Lily: Uhn Daddy are? ["Uhn" is Lily-speak for "where," "what," or any other question starter.]

Me: He’s in the living room.

Lily: Uhn jammies are, Mommy? [This, because I was already dressed, a rarity.]

Me: I’m already dressed, Sweetie.

Lily: Uhn going, Mommy?

Me:  I have to go to work, Bug.

Lily: I go work, too.  Mommy, I go work, too.

This dialog impressed upon me two things.  One, I can’t believe I can now have a sensible discussion with my daughter.  Amazing.  And, two, I am so glad that I only have to go to work one day a week.  The rest of the days, I get to converse with this sweet little person all day long.  How lucky am I?
